Loud Luxury Exclusive Interview With CEEK VR!
Every year, a handful of dance tunes come seemingly out of nowhere and conquer the world, and 2018 saw a duo named Loud Luxury score their first serious hit with the incredibly infectious “Body.” That tune took its time getting noticed, but once people started hearing it, there was no turning back, and all across Europe, it shot up the charts and was streamed tens of millions of times.
Now, the song is making its way to other parts of the world, including the U.S., and there’s no telling how much bigger it could get. Also, now that they have this one undeniable smash under their belts, who knows what’s next for Loud Luxury, who have the pop sensibilities and production skills to become the next true breakout stars in the electronic dance field.
Congrats on the success of "Body"-- it's huge! How does it feel to see the song take off all around the world?
Joe: It’s an incredible feeling. When we made the song we never expected to hear it all over the world. Every single Snapchat and Instagram story we get from countries around the world blows our mind.
You guys are from Canada originally but reside in the U.S. Your single is a major smash in many other countries while it's still rising in the U.S. Is it strange to see it take off everywhere else before your home country?
Andrew: We were always told that U.S. radio always take a bit more time than other countries so patience is important. We are very confident and think it’s only a matter of time!
How did you connect with Brando, who provides vocals for the track?
Andrew: When we first moved to L.A. we were hitting up a lot of singers we would find online to try and work. One manager got back to us and invited us to a showcase they were having for their artist just down the street from the apartment we were renting. Brando was actually performing in the opening band at this showcase and we were vibing with his performance so much that we totally forgot to say hi to the actual artist we were there to see. A few weeks later we got into the studio and “Body” was created.
What's the plan to capitalize on this single's success?
Joe: At the end of the day we’re artists so our goal is to keep creating. We eat, sleep, and breathe music and have so much new stuff finished. “Body” has given us an incredible platform for our music to be heard and we want to keep releasing music we love.
You two have only been making music for a few years, so this success happened pretty quickly. How does it feel to rise so high so quickly?
Joe: Behind every “overnight success” there’s a lot of prep work that no one hears about. As teenagers, Andrew was making hip-hop beats and I was playing in bands and learning how to produce. The main thing we’ve learned is when things take off, it happens fast. Enjoy the ride.
How did you come to work with Armin Van Buuren?
Andrew: Armin is the head of our label Armada Music and an incredible mentor. He heard some of the music we had sent over from our agent and wanted to meet us, so we went down to Ibiza for the first time during the summer of 2017 to hang out.
Who inspires you in the dance world?
Joe: There’s way too many to name but a few important ones would be Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Disclosure, and Duke Dumont
What does the rest of 2019 bring for you guys?
Andrew: Madness. We’re touring parts of the world we’ve never seen before which is super exciting and have so much new music finished.
Joe: At the end of the day we’re starting 2019 off full steam and have no intention of slowing down.
