Carly Pearce Exclusive Interview With CEEK VR!

CEEK

If you are a country music fan, you might have heard the name Carly Pearce by now...and if you haven’t, you at least know her music. The singer-songwriter scored a No. 1 country smash in 2017 with the track “Every Little Thing,” which finally gave her at least a taste of the success the musician has deserved for years now.

With her debut album (also called Every Little Thing) in the rearview mirror and a new single working its way up the country ranking, Pearce is establishing herself as a talent to watch, or, listen to. She’s already hard at work on album No. 2, and there’s no reason to believe she won’t be able to hit new highs when she returns with more tunes.

Pearce talks about her success, the pressure that comes with it, and how she is only interested in ruling country, not pulling a Taylor Swift and eventually working her way into the pop sphere.

You've been rising on the country music scene for quite some time. Would you say you've "made it" yet?

Oh gosh, no! I would say that I am "making it." I hope that I never get to the place where I feel like I've totally made it, because that would mean there's nothing left for me to accomplish. I'm just getting started.

You recently released a new single called "Closer to You"--tell me about that song.

This is such a fun phase of life for me because this song parallels what is going on in my life right now. I've always been the type of artist that wants to be 100% authentic to my story, and this year I fell in love. It's fun to get to share that as the first chapter/single of this new record.

You broke in a major way last year thanks to your single "Every Little Thing"--do you feel the pressure to rise to those heights again and replicate that success?

I'm human, so of course I do. I think that all I can do is create the best music possible and work as hard as ever and hope that people resonate with it the way they did with my first single. I believe if I continue to write MY truth, it'll speak for itself.

What would you say separates you from other country musicians?

I think for me, I am wanting to own the country lane. What I mean by that is I want to be the "country girl" of my generation. I see Grand Ole Opry member, CMA and ACM awards, and so on. My heartbeat is country music and I want to build that within the genre.

Is "Closer to You" a one-off single or a taste of your second album?

It's definitely the first song off of my second album, which is so exciting! So much has happened to me both personally and professionally, and this single feels like the perfect introduction into the next phase of my artistry and my evolution as a woman.

What is different when it comes to your sophomore record?

I think the foundation remains the same (my influences, artistic direction, voice) but I think I'm going a little deeper on this one and have even more of a sense of who I am as a woman, which will translate in the writing and song selection of this record.

What does 2019 bring for you?

I'm so excited to see what 2019 is going to bring! I know for sure it'll bring a lot of touring and a new record, but I hope that it blows my mind in the way that 2018 did. I'm forever grateful that this is my life. It's all I've dreamt of since I was a little girl growing up in Kentucky.
