Chase Status

Chase and Status are one of the most famous music groups in modern England. The group that was created in 2003 has become, in some sense, a cult band for the world electronic scene, at least for the mainstream stage.

Although Chase and Status are personal pseudonyms for two specific musicians, it is still not entirely correct to call the artists a duo, which we will talk about a little later. The two musicians both come from London, but began collaborating in Manchester, where they both studied at the universities. Although they previously had mutual friends in London, they learned about their mutual passion for music in the early 2000s. Will (Status) studied the History of Art at the University of Manchester, while Saul (Chase) studied English and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University. Work on the first tracks began around 2000, after which Status decided to leave the university and devote himself entirely to a musical career.

By the way, we mentioned that the team is not a duo for one simple reason. In fact, the band consists of three stable members, who take part in the studio recording sessions, and also resort to the help of one local touring musician. So, the composition of the group is as follows:
Saul Milton (Chase) - keyboardist, guitarist, and programmer;
Will Kennard (Status) - keyboardist, bass guitarist, and onstage engineer;
Patrick Williams (MC Rage) - MC (2009 - present);
and also Andy Gangadeen - drummer (2009 -present, touring member).

The group, and in those days a full-fledged duet, recorded their first tracks in late 2004 - early 2005. Back in those days, C&S recorded several singles and their first EP, Ten Tonne, which allowed them to gain some recognition in the English underground electronic music circles. The band recorded their second EP during the following year, as well as several remixes that bring recognizability amid wider auditories. Also, it was the year when the musicians' first experience in producing other musicians, and more specifically, the production of one song for the singer Jenna G., happened. The group released their double-single: Hurt You / Sell Me Your Soul, which allowed them to take the first position in the UK Dance chart in 2007.

The first studio album of the group More than Alot became a real creative success. It was ranked as the second-best album of the year in the UK Dance Chart.

The release of this album finally secured the image of the mainstream artist for the group. The group was marked by a collaboration with one of the most famous representatives of the drum and bass stage, Plan B. The End Credits track, recorded together in November 2009, allowed them to reach the ninth position in the UK Singles Chart at the peak of its popularity. The band released their next studio album, No More Idols, in early 2011. This album was ranked the first in the UK Dance Chart top and the second in the overall UK Album Chart. The album was certified double platinum by BPI and was widely considered the group's most successful album.

The next album of the band became noticeably darker than the previous ones. Although it has received high chart positions and good reviews from critics, it has not achieved the same fame as No More Idols. During these years, the group embarked on their first all-European tour. It performed on stage with bands such as famous bands as Metallica, for example. The group began to experiment with sound even more around 2015-2016, which leads to the fact that EP London Bars music acquires separate elements of hip-hop, grime, and funk. The last two albums, released in 2017 and 2019, respectively, also did not disdain experimenting with sound. The band has brought back the original old drum and bass sound again, and the latest album has added some elements of the jungle, which was a bit unexpected.

Despite all the events of 2020, the group continues to be active. So, the group plans to resume the first tours in October 2020. Also, the band has already scheduled performances for the whole year 2021 in advance. So far, the group did not announce any planned new releases, but it may be a matter of time. Taking into account the dynamics of the release of previous albums, we can assume that the band will release new material around 2021. We would like to believe that the group will continue to delight us with new releases and performances soon.
