Moxie Raia Exclusive Interview With CEEK VR!

CEEK

Like so many other up-and-coming artists out there on their grind, Moxie Raia has a name you may have heard before, though you’re not sure where. She hasn’t yet landed a smash hit, and her music hasn’t topped the charts, but she’s been working hard at getting herself out there for a while now...and it’s working.

In the past few years, Raia has been able to connect herself with some of the biggest names in pop and hip-hop, and all of that association might just help rocket her into true stardom any day now. Her debut mixtape featured artists like Post Malone and Pusha T, and she scored the opening spot on Justin Bieber’s last tour, which allowed her to perform in front of massive crowds that most acts can only ever dream of.

At this point, it is seemingly only a matter of time before Moxie Raia ends up on a track that rises the ranks and becomes a serious smash, at which point she’ll likely become something of a household name on her own as well.

So, what’s she all about? Let's find out.

CEEK VR: How do you define your sound?

Moxie Raia: As much as I evolve and grow, I do notice things that I always seem to naturally do or be attracted to… I like my lyrics to be raw and direct. I like a lot of bass to contrast my voice. And I love chords that make me want to run out of the room.

CEEK VR: Tell me about your new single "Cold Outside.”

Moxie Raia: “Cold Outside” is about me wanting to lean on someone I had been close with. Not wanting the ties of everything we used to have…but just wanting a friendship with someone I had gone really deep with. Because sometimes you need people around that know you best, ya know, when it’s cold outside.

CEEK VR:  Your real name is Laura—where does Moxie come from?

Moxie Raia: My mom named me Laura :) Moxie was a nickname my friend Eric gave to me when I was in high school. It basically means to be a force, and I’ve always had a lot of determination. I moved away from my parents when I was 13 to pursue my music—I’ve always gone after what I wanted.

CEEK VR: How did you end up opening for Justin Bieber's last tour? That's a highly-coveted spot!

Moxie Raia: Scooter Braun! Scooter put me on that tour and I am forever grateful.

CEEK VR: Tell me about that experience. Were you at all nervous to be performing in front of such a large audience, possibly for the first time?

Moxie Raia: I was nervous… There’s definitely a skill to performing in arenas and the only way to learn it is to do it. So I was really learning every night. His fans are amazing and were very supportive. Once I started to get to know them, I opened up on stage more.

CEEK VR: How did that opportunity help your career?

Moxie Raia: Getting to play my music for so many people around the US and Canada was a huge step for me.

CEEK VR: You have a new single out now—is there an album in the works?

Moxie Raia: There is an album in the works!

CEEK VR: What does the rest of 2018 bring for you?

Some more new music and some more new videos :)
